You don’t suppose that Iowa State had anything to do with any of those 8 Nebraska turnovers? Some of those were just plain “gimme that f**kin’ ball” aggressiveness on ISU’s part.

    Pt,
No, none (not to be confused with noone). Thank you for asking.

I’m done with this column. Your refusal to give any credit to what is going on in Manhattan gets tiresome. If I wan’t to read anti K-State drivel, I can just open up our own beat writer at the Star.

    Brian,
Lighten up, my lad. Your squad is 3-1 and atop the North. Why let a drivel-master ruin your day? If your boys win it, you get the last laugh and I end up looking worse than even big white farmers wearing purple.

The Iowa State / Nebraska game is a reminder to all of us that ANYTHING can happen and NEVER, NEVER take anything for granted. As Joe Pa says, winning is important, preparation is critical. The Huskers were not MENTALLY prepared for that game. Lights out in Nebraska. This season isn’t going to do a damn thing for recruiting unless there’s some baller who wants a degree in swine nutrition.

Whatever will Greg do without another thin-skinned Cat fan? (roll eyes)

Brian, what kind of “credit” are you talking about?! Bill Snyder has equaled what Ron Prince was able to last year:

    – Both coaches beat A&M and Iowa State (I should point out that Snyder didn’t win either of them on the road, unlike Prince).

    – Snyder beat Colorado, something Prince did not do (Prince lost 14-13.)

    – Prince beat Lousiana Lafayette, something Snyder couldn’t do.

IN A NUTSHELL (AS GREG NOTED): BEAT NEBRASKA, MISSOURI OR KANSAS…..THEN EXPECT A LOT OF CREDIT.

This past weekend shows how big of a gap there is between the north and the south. The South had their best (TU, and OU) up against the North’s best (KU and MU)in Lawrence and Columbia and the south destroyed the north.

By halftime TU was on cruse control. Mack Brown was eating beef jerky during the game.

If this doesn’t change the south might try to get out of the Big 12 and merge will some real compitition. While the north could merge with the Mountian West or something.

    810 scoops 610 once again!

Nick, Prince beat ISU at home last year, but other than that you are correct. Basically, Snyder’s done what Prince did. So far.

    OlatheCat,

And Prince beat A&M AT College Station (by 14 points).

Right. Which is why I predicted a 3-5 conference record before the season. Last year, the CU game last year in Boulder was close and you could make a strong argument that we should have won it, we beat A&M on the road, and beat ISU at home and this year the game was at Arrowhead. With better coaching this year, and a couple key additions in Gregory and Daniel Thomas, I figured three wins was doable. Now it looks like more victories may be possible. We’ll just have to see. The KU and MU games are going to be wars. Nobody is quite sure what to expect. Greg’s just gone anti-KSU in his column, which has turned off some people.

The Big 12 South couldn’t find another conference so gullable as to take all of them in, as the Big 8 did with Texas and the weak sisters from the state of Texas. The SEC would take TU and OU, and then the rest of them could go back to playing TCU,SMU,and the other old SW conference powerehouses. Alabama or Florida will walk all over Texas.
In regard to KSU,to paraphrase Joe McGuff, “I’d rather watch Snyder think than Mangino eat.”

Turn up the volume – I highly recommend the Benny Hill theme somg.

We’ll just deal in facts boys. KState is in the drivers seat. Iowa State is the bitch in the passenger seat preparing to give some road head. UK, Nubbytown, and CU are in the far back seat with the window rolled down to vent the stench.

The Tiggers are hanging onto the luggage rack.

    Them are just the facts.

“It would also be a bit unfair to judge HCBS before he gets to play the three teams K-State has not beaten in over three years.”

You do your logic a disservice when you reference time as indistinguishable from ability. Nebraska is gnashing their teeth for sniffing KState’s exhaust right now not because they beat them during the Prince years, but because the person that replaced Prince is so far superior to what he was, and the taste is particularly disturbing to the Red because the gum-chewer reminds them more of Prince than he does Snyder.

$90 face value tix at Kansas game vs. OU. When fans think they get ripped off, they boo and leave early. If Lew Perkins wanted bigtime sports, you get it, but you lose a lot of the charm of college sports when you choose the money god.

KU games have always been fun b/c they were the anti-arrowhead experience. Saturday was as close to arrowhead as I’ve ever seen in Memorial.

It’s very cute to read all you giddy Wildcat fans’ opinions on the North.

You all have a right to be giddy. I would be too. But should your team lose it’s last 4 games (very possible), I’m gonna take a day off work to read and make posts on OTC….what a field day that could be!

    Pt,
What we have to look forward to is NU’s Gum Gnasher reviving his on-field feud with Dr. NutterButter Pad in Manhattan on November 21st. You know those Catbackers in towns near the north border will be setting up lots of signs and messages as the red descendants of Maliki drive south. Kind of fun to put a little juice back into this rivalry.

One thing people are forgetting in comparing last year’s KSU team with this year’s…QB.

Prince had an NFL 1st Round draft pick as his QB last year. Snyder has two mediocre guys at best running his offense.

Difference this year is KSU runs the ball better than previous years under Prince.

How will it end? We will see, but right now KSU is playing with house money considering the lack of talent they have…they could go 0-4 to end the year, but win two games at home against unranked, reeling opponents and they’ll win the North. Ah, we can dream…

    Dear Uncle Dick,
The Big 8 was really gullible to take the Texas Schools from SWC. Let’s see the Houston market is larger than Kansas City, Omaha, let’s rephrase that the Houston Market is larger than Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado and Missouri combined if you leave out St. Louis, oh well add St. Louis but then include Dallas/Ft. Worth & San Antonio and it is no contest. Football + Marketshare = $$$. I wish I was that gullible.

GH, well said. Only problem this go-round is neither team has an offense that can tack-on a unnecessary score. What will Chewy get pissed about?

It won’t likely matter anyway. If KState does what Bill Snyder is preparing them for, wins over KU and MU in Manhattan will make the game at NU inconsequential.

Fuck money, that’s what’s wrong with college athletics. Fuck Houston. Another ten years, soccer will be the main sport in Texas. The Mexican border is near Olathe as it is. Let all those illegals buy the $100 tennis shoes and big screens making $7 an hour.

If only the South had been so dominant in the Civil War, it’d be a whole new ball game. 10-4 Johnny Utah about the KU gameday experience. It is the same fuckers and fuckettes that turned Arrowhead into a must do on the social calendar. It’s time for the greasers to take back the town from the socs. Stay Golden Pony Boy!

This is definitely in my top 10 of favorite threads in recent OTC history. Unc putting the Mexican border at just south of Blackbob and SM’s “Stay Golden Pony Boy!” were the trippers. Excellent work, men.

The North is getting respectable as a whole. A strong conference is better than one dominated by one or two teams. It will be good to have 4-5 Bowl teams from the North. What a great league to play in, and watch. The Big 12 North looks like the Big Ten– which Big Twelvers by the way— never seem to understand. There is a nucleus of tough mediocre Bowl qualifiers and maybe one standout a year. It makes for packed stadiums, long term coaches, and a better prepared bowl team.

Greg is really showing his Husker bias. Which is fine. He should. And he’ll freely admit it.
PT-thats all I want KK to do. Everybody knows he has it. He somehow acts like he doesn’t. Wierd! And Smartman….Nice Outsiders ref!

MrO, KK actually DOES do a good job covering the Squawks and Tiggers when they are the favorites and are outperforming the other schools — which is why I lost interest in listening to him in recent years. Does he sound like he enjoys when he builds the opponents up for a mighty fall and then they do? Absolutely. But he is dead-on in calling out the bias in the local media (Star, Channel 9, the morning guys on 810, etc.), because if KU or MU were in KState’s position right now, they’d be falling all over themselves saying this race is over.

I’d agree that KK does an AGGRESSIVE job covering Kansas (and to a far lesser extent MU) when there is the hint of wrongdoing or when KU under achieves. Butto say the local media is in the bag for KU is a joke. We’ve discussed this before and I’ve yet to see the evidence. KU has rcvd more coverage in recent years due to the fact that overall they have been the most successful of the 3 schools. You can’t argue that.

  31. Anonymous says:

    Ptolemy
The local media is definitely in the bag for KU AND MU. Look no further than last Saturday at Ch. 9’s coverage of the KU and MU games as though they were the Big 12 football news of the day. They were interviewing the f**king kicker on a team that got pounded at home! Meanwhile, the news of the day in college football was in Lincoln and Manhattan. Did they get a deserving degree of coverage? They’re supposed to be journalists. If you’re going to conduct an infomercial, then call it that. But stop trying to pretend you are conducting journalism.
