Once every blue moon or so Hollywood stumbles across a small independently produced movie that, with special handling, goes through the stratosphere.

It happened with MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING, and later

You’re right about this one. We saw it last Saturday night and were blown away. Scariest movie I’ve ever seen.

And the countdown to the backlash begins in… 3…2…1…

The same thing happened with Blair Witch. And then everyone claimed to hate it. Kudos for these indies getting paid. They better roll this out to wide-release soon.

This movie was a giant overhyped turd. 3 thumbs down.

Question to James Andrews. How can you say the movie was a giant overhyped turd?
I haven’t seen a single TV commercial or newspaper ad yet. Not even a Shawn Edwards ‘best movie I’ve seen this year’ claim.
If it’s all word of mouth as Jack surmised in the story then it’s got to be what r e a l people are telling eachother.

Art – I haven’t seen the movie, but in James’ defense, there was a full article on the front page of the KC Star yesterday.

Luther-I agree but it ran after the big weekend business at AMC in Olathe. Therefore the local buzz had to have come from internet postings or showbusiness websites like Variety.

I got the review over the weekend on the At the Movies TV show. They were already leaning that it was over hyped. They were glad it didn’t have the herky jerky make u vomit camera work of Blair Witch project. They also gave kudos to the marketing which was not showing highlights of the film but instead showing crowd reaction shots. They were impressed with how basic it was in a genuine fear produced but they felt that was more audience driven. Example seeing it in the discount theater with three people in there also or renting it will not create the same experience/atmosphere as going to see it in a crowded theater. And once that atmosphere is gone so is a lot of the appeal of the movie.

Also finally took Greg Hall’s advice and went and saw Hangover. I got one chuckle. Don’t understand what the big deal about it was???

Overhyped or not, the guy that made this film has shown once again that creativity, imagination and talent can trump big budgets when putting together a film. It’s inspiring to see his work make it this far, and it isn’t even close to being done yet.
