As a middle-aged, suburban white dude, I have always wondered about the correct spelling of “aite.” As a KU fan I am proud of my school’s athletes performing this function and tutoring me in the ways of Ebonics.
And speaking of Ebonics reminds me of Neilbonics, which reminds me of Nebraska. As much as KK would like to see KU’s athletics shut down, countless other schools have proved that it’s not gonna happen as long as they’re winning. Look at Lawrence Phillips. Dr. Tom, that paragon of decency and discipline handled all of Phillips “discipline” internally and it certainly worked out well for everyone except the woman who got dragged down the stairs by her hair. Bill Snyder got to decide what to do when his starting quarterback decided he wanted to get laid the night before their biog bowl game and everyone was fine with it. It sucks, but if you want to be a fan of big-time college athletics, you’d better prepare yourself to be cynical. If you don’t want to be cynical, start watching the Ivy League because fugly shit happens everywhere. It happened at my alma mater this week but it happened at Mizzou before that and Nebraska before that. And it happened at Oklahoma from 1980-1988. As long as Self and Mangino keep winning, everything be aite.

Which KU homers in the local media are you referring to when you say they want K-State to be stopped at all costs. I mean, yeah, I’m a huge KU homer, but who in the media has admitted a hatred for K-State like Kietzman has done with KU? And I ask that sincerely. I can’t think of s ingle media personality who has ever said the stuff about K-State that KK has said about KU.

Nick Wright’s interview is a perfect example of why he’s a subpar sports talk host. He doesn’t have the ability to delve into issues; he lacks the very basic journalistic skills required to properly report and analyze a situation. All he has is attitude and that alone won’t cut it.
That criticism is applicable to essentially all of the on-air talent at 610. They have no chance to be taken seriously until management recongizes this makes some programming changes.

I enjoy both 610 and 810. 810 takes themselves a little too seriously some times. However, when a story is breaking I’m heading there before 610. As SM pointed out in the comments, 810 does a better job in analysis even if it does take them off on a tangent occasionally.

I’m sure GH can provide the exact citation if that’s what you mean, but Kietzman has admitted, on air, that whenever he drove his kids past Lawrence on the way to Manhattan he instructed them to hold their noses to avoid the stench coming from KU. Now, I think that’s kind of funny and I also think that it’s exactly what a father SHOULD do, especially a father who was a cheerleader for Kansas State. If I ever, god forbid, have to take my Kids by Columbia, I will probably do something similar. His hatred of KU is honest, well-earned and appropriate. I don’t have a problem with it and I always take his criticisms of KU with a shaker of salt. And, in the final analysis, we are talking about sports here. It’s not as if KK is making fun of the KU Med Center or or something. But come on, the guy has deep-seated issues when it comes to KU.
And it was a clever trick you just pulled. Asserting that there are legions of K-State haters in te media, providing no proof of their existence and then demanding proof that Kietzman himself is the hater. Were you ever a debater? Because that’s a time-honored trick and very hard to pull off without damaging your credibility.

If I was Lew, I would take the players involved, put one football player and on basketball player, together, and have them run the stairs at the football stadium. Together. I would put trash cans out for them to puke in. If they have energy to fight, then they have energy to run. Collins woud be in the best shape of his life by all of the running he would be doing. He was there and as team captain, and a senior, he should have stepped in and stopped this from happening. Actually, all of the seniors, from both teams, should have stepped in. They would be running those stairs for days.

Now back to my original request – Bill Snyder was routinely lambasted in the local media in years past for scheduling patsies when they were a top 25 team. Now that MU and UK are there, and are scheduling cupcakes like Furman and Northern Colorado in their non-cons, employing the Snyder Model that states such programs have a tough enough schedule in the Big 12 and need to ensure depth on their team and an undefeated record to earn any BCS love, where’s the cupcake criticism for those coaches and programs? How about a paragraph indicating their bias – the 610 UK Homers, SSJ on 810…c’mon where’s the balance?

I think that is putting it mildly. As a listener you can hear the pain in his voice anytime he has to mention anything about KU that is obviously a ‘good thing’…winning the Orange Bowl, NCAA Hoops Tournament…
I was heading to pick my son up at school about a half hour into BTL yesterday afternoon and he had the electric excitement in his voice that is not unlike a 17 year old realizing he IS going to get laid on prom night.
KK lives for any story where he has the chance to broadcast anything remotely negative about KU.

Some football groupie started to become a basketball groupie and they started fighting over the VD carrying piece. What idiots. It fits every stereotype you have of jocks. Mr.O…you may not like Clinkscale, but he’s yours and he hides his bias. EVERYBODY on 610 does it, C&C are probably the worst, although I’ll hand it to you that nobody listens to them so it hardly counts.
EVERY person in a place of influence at the Star has an implied bias in favor of UK. Just do a search in their archives of the favorable UK stories vs. the favorable KSU stories. It’s not even close.
On 810 you also have Swartz and Ferguson who get airtime to bloviate and who can forget Kevin Harlan – my god is he a veiled homer!

Leaving work, I find out on 610 just before 5:00 that they’ve got Bill Self’s comments to the media after the break.
810 had Trent Green (is their a more boring guest?) on the first half of the 5:00 hour, while 610 played ALL of Self’s comment, along with comments from Taylor, Collins and Aldrish. GREAT JOB by 610.
I don’t think KK ran the comments until 5:30 or later.
(Bill Self is awesome. The fighting “situation” was nearing pandemonium in the media, and with 20 minutes of calm, cool, honest comments and then letting his players talk, the whole incident was basically diffused. KK and some ohter non-KU hosts will try to start the fire again, but it won’t work. Self doused it.)
