Tourists Wanted: Way Down Yonder in Trouble Bubble

Swamp bluesman Tab Benoit had a powerful message for attendees at the end of his packed concert at Knuckleheads Saturday: don’t forget about the disaster state known as Louisiana.

“It’s the worst disaster this country has ever seen and nobody knows what’s happening,” Benoit said. “The truth is, nothing’s happening.”

What the state needs most is tourism and in spite of its difficulties, attractions remain that “compare to Atlanta,” he added.

“We’re losing an acre an hour to the water,” Benoit said. “Just show up; you’ve got to show up. I know it’shard, but if you really want to come down and get dirty with us, you’ve got to show up. You can’t just throw money at somebody. It don’t matter if you’re a Republican or a Democrat, you’re an American and America needs help.”
