12 OClock Jump: Conan O’Brien Trumpet Player at Mutual Musicians Sunday

Something wicked this way comes…

Good wicked, that is – in the form of trumpet player Mark Pender. It went down at Mark Edelman and KCUR FM’s 12 OClock Jump live radio show midnight at the Mutual Musicians Foundation at 1823 Highland.

“He’s from Kansas City, so this was like a homecoming for him,” Edelman said. “He went to Grandview high school.”

Pender plays in Conan O’Brien’s Tonight Show band headed by Max Weinberg. Pender played with The Boss at the Super Bowl.

“He blew the roof off the place,” Edelman continued. “It was amazing. He jumped into the audience, started wailing on the old call and response tune ‘Caledonia.’ THe place was packed, so the volume was pretty intense. I wonder what it sounded like on the radio.”

Something “wicked”? When did KC turn into Boston? Wake me up when Max or Conan show up at the MMF. This dude has less cache then Myron Floren from the Lawrence Orchestra. Numero Uno entertainment on Saturday Night is still the BIG JOE POLKA SHOW on the RFD Network. It’s WAYNES WORLD for AARP members.

Hearne, do you have an email address via KCConfidential that I can send you something you might be interested in covering? Couldn’t find one on the site. Thanks

Pender recorded and toured with Bruce for the Seeger Sessions, and was great to see live.
He’s at the 2:05 mark of this video:
