Bad idea to have it permanent in Teaxas:(

    Those damned greedy Texans!!!!

I loved the Big 8, and I KNEW the expansion to 12, into Texas, would lead to this. Years ago it was obivous those Texas BIG DOGS dont share. Come on, anyone who watched Dallas knows how they operate down there. (jk;) (but it is true).

KC used to host EVERY final four in Municipal. We generous folks here in KC are willing to share, but not those dispicable Texans, they want it all, and we should just say no.

    How do we do that?

    Exactly right, NoName.

When the Big 8 and Southwest Conference merged in 1996, I figured it wouldn’t take long before the Texans ran the show. I had covered the SWC for several years on Texas radio and understood the mindset. In its view, the SWC was doing the Big 8 a huge favor by allowing it to join its four Texas teams; the old Big 8 could keep the name — plus four — but everything else was going to be run by the Texans, including — gradually — complete usurpation of championship venues.

While the merger created a super-conference, it also marginalized historic Big 8 members. Kansas City may still have a presence in hoops — about which the Texans couldn’t care less — but if it gets the football title game once a decade, even with Arrowhead’s renovation, it will be merely a political token.

BTW I don’t hate Texas or Texans; I very much enjoyed my years down there. But I sure don’t want them to be in charge of anything outside of Texas (like the Big XII or the White House) because they’ll steamroll everybody and everything in their path, whether that road leads off a cliff or not. There’s an old saying the the Lone Star State: “You can always tell a Texan, you just can’t tell him much.”

In this economy? This is crazy? Does Jerry need to pay for another face lift. I use to live in Denton Texas so i have special feelings for Texans but this is nuts.

Excess or not, I’ve always appreciated Jones’ drive to win. He’s one of those owners who wants it so bad he has to be in the middle of everything, which has its pluses and its minuses.

The new stadium in Dallas sounds like a colossal monolith you could get lost in, almost like a physical manifestation of Jones’ ego. If Tony Romo can’t deliver this season it’s probably goodbye Wade Phillips and hello Jason Garrett…if not Shanahan or Cowher…

I’m in the “Texans are a necessary evil” camp. They may be arrogant, they may throw around money and influence but they did bring “our” conference new viewers and money. I pretty much hate them and while they did marginalize some of the Big 8 schools in many ways, they also gave legitimacy in many others. My biggest regret about them is that the state of Texas (as in the government) was the functional equivalent of “Mommy” for UT, A&M and TT and Momma told those three schools that they couldn’t go out and play unless they took their weakling little brother Baylor with them.

Which is why we’re the Big XII instead of the Big XI. A lot of people don’t know that the real reason the Big Ten didn’t change its name to the Bog Eleven after Penn State joined was because the Big 8 had planned ahead and bought trademarks and intellectual property rights to the names Big 11 and Big 12 because they had anticpated adding members at some point in the future. True story.

And I agree with you, Greg. I’d be more than happy to have Dallas take over the football game permanently in exchange for getting the hoops tournament. But it has to be even. For every year Dallas gets the football game, we get the basketball tournament. If Oklahoma City gets hoops one year, the football game goes to Denver. I am not interested in lining the pockets of Jerry Jones or making Texas any happier.

WOW! What an impressive, gorgeous building! Thanks for the video link Greg. However, no place (KC included) should be the permanent home for a 12 team conference championship unless it is like the old Southwest Conference, where everyone save Arkansas is from the same state. Surely, a conference represented by seven states needs to move the championship around. Omaha has the Quest Center almost as big as the Sprint and we might host the football championship in Lincoln, Who should say that one place or state always gets it.

  8. Anonymous says:

    Gavin
So, Omaha, based on your statement, I assume you’d be cool with moving around the College World Series from place to place?

I could live with that. I know I wasn’t in favor of leaving Rosenblatt for a new downtown stadium and would have preferred we told the NCAA to kiss our posterior. I know I would miss seeing the football championship played outside some years be it at Arrowhead or elsewhere. Just having the Missouri/Kansas game at Arrowhead the last couple of years has increased the value of that game I believe.

  11. Anonymous says:

    Gavin
With all due respect, Omaha, it’s easy for you to say that because there is no danger of it happening. Omaha (the city), wants as many eventys as it can get but it wants them when it already KNOWS it’s getting a huge event every year with the CWS. That’s not a bad situation to be in and good for you for having a city in that position in the first place but traditionally basketball belongs in Kansas City and a case can be made that football should be in Texas.

If Dallas is going to be THE location for the football game (and it appears very likely that could be the case), then why not pick a single location for basketball? If basketball has to move, then football should too. I’m fine with a quid pro quo arrangement that gets KC basketball in perpetuity even if it means giving away the football game, but the state of Texas can’t have it both ways and want to always host football but rotate basketball.

  12. Anonymous says:

    Omaha
It would be easier for me to accept the basketball tournament in KC because of the history of the Big 8 and the fact that it involves more than just 2 teams. Whereas with football, one area always hosting a two team championship would seem to give an unfair advantage to those area teams. However, I still think the idea of moving conference championships so area fans get a taste (i.e. Denver, Des Moines, St. Louis, KC, Dallas, etc. is beneficial as long as they can demonstrate the ability to put on said championship.

  13. Anonymous says:

    StLsux
St Louis?? why would anyone EVER consider there for a Big 12 tourney? They are not close to a Big 12 school, and many empirical studies have shown, most people in that so called “city” did not even attend college.

Not to say anything bad about that garbage infested barrio, located west of East StLouie Illinois, but it is really not a good choice for the Big 12, it may be best if they stick to their dog fighting, mugging and being a murder capital.

I have seen the new Cowboys stadium and it was designed with FANS in mind. Unlike many NFL teams the Cowboys run their own concessions, another smart move by Jerry Jones…more control, higher quality and MORE MONEY. The Cowboys have partnered with the NY YANKEES and run the concessions at their new stadium and will be looking to expand that operation in other venues. Dallas has the good fortune of two great owners with Jones and Mark Cuban. We should be so lucky. Jerry Jones might be a prick but he puts his money where his mouth is. And don’t think he didn’t have a hand in Tony Romo dumping Jessica Simpson. No way Jerry was gonna let his QB have a hotter piece of ass….I mean that in a relative way.

JACKSON COUNTY GOT RIPPED OFF..WHERE IS STADIUM MONEY? INVESTIGATION SHOULD START NOOOOOOOOOOW!

Visited arrowhead before last nights game. Where
did 500 million go? It went into bathrooms
and suites and incredible offivces for cheifs.
When the fans and jackson county taxpayers see
what they got for 500 million they will be looking to hang the public officials who okayed
    this.
This is a huge scam. Who approved all this money. Someone made off with millions in this
scam. Where did all this money go.
Put together the k and arrowhead renovation money
and kc could have had one of the most incredible
stadiums in the nation. Jerry Jones is 100% right…he knows how to make money.
KC got rippedx off…get the invoices for the
work at arrowhead…its nothing different than
what we had for 30 years…
someone has to answer for this…it is a
    rip off…greg…call out the dogs…arrowhead
]is one bigf banboozle like the restof kc
    projects.

  16. Anonymous says:

    greg
    jojo,
We are still a year away from the completion of Arrowhead’s renovation so it is too early to make a call on whether or not we were “ripped off.” But I too was there Saturday night and was less than impressed with what I saw was completed. That’s a lot of cash for wider walkways, two video boards that are very forgettable and a sound system that appears to specialize in blasting ear-splitting hip hop. Those suites better be as spectacular as Teri Hatcher’s two best assets.

  17. Anonymous says:

    jojo
    greg…no way this could cost 500 million…
entire stadiums are built from the ground up
for less. The ladies bathrooms are the onlything
we might notice for the average fans…but
the chiefs ripped the taxpayers off.
I thought union staton and the p and l district
were rip offs. I swore never again to trust
kcmo officals after they took joco money and
ripped us off with that loser union station.
someone needs to get on this. The stadium is
75%^ done…even len dawson said it was
a laughing situation…when asked about the
new additionas…he said the new scoreboard
    and the ladies rest rooms.
If the stadium is empty they don’t need wider
concourses since noone will be there to
    buy the overpruiced crap there.
People need to look into this because I’m telling
you that this whole renovation bullshit is
    one big fucking rip off.
Luckily I didn’t pay one dime for this
crappy deal. They shut down the buses to make
more money on parking…something is very fishy
here and someone needs to look at the politicans
and whaT THEY RECEIVED for getting this
piece of crap renovation money deal passed.

Greg you obviously have never seen Terri Hatcher’s assets. Can’t recall the movie but it was with Dennis Quaid and it was a New Orleans flick. She has a scene where she comes out on the mansion balcony topless. Not very impressive.

nice try at diverting the converstaion away from the stadium money, but it is not unreasonable to ask to ask for a breakdown of where the money went. People are raving about Kauffmann stadium improvements, while saying the opposite about Arrowhead.

greg, maybe try some real investigative journalism, check it out, ask for a breakdown of where the money went.

I would ask the same about the TARP funds, but it has already been asked repeatedly, and Washington DC is refusing to say. I am sure Arrowhead will also refuse, but at least we should ask.

    PS
might I add a comment about the common-tatters on the Chiefs broadcast last night? J.C.et. al. , Guys we DO NOT need captain obvious. WE DO NOT need to be told a play was just a debacle. We do not need to be told what should have happened, how you would have done it. We are WELL AWARE when that a player dropped ball, missed tackle etc etc etc.

It was bad enough to see Cassell do his rookie type handoffs ( doing evrything but waves his arms and yell “ITS A RUN”)

It sucks that we no longer have Tony G to save the 3rd and 6 play with a lob over the middle.
It is bad enough to see the same BS plays from last years(s)”Larry runs the ball” and is stuffed, without some goofballs in the booth chiming in, it became very irrating to hear “HOW IT IS IN THE NFL”.

Try doing some research on players, and tell us some things we dont know, make it fun, dont juts pile on when we already know a play sucked.

    PPS
The coach and GM are making sure EVREYONE knows “MY WAY OR THE HIGWAY” We heard it 50 times last night …..

And agreeing “BOWE to 3rd string”?

Do you understand this is NOT high school? These men are millionaires, and I dont think they react well to high school coahing tactics. Stars bring teams to the Superbowl, not tyrant coaches.

Haley does not even have the look of an NFL coach. He looks scared. He is amped on something, those eyes are not right. He looks like Ben Stiller ( in any movie he does, he always plays the same charactor), wided eyed, scared, jumpy, and nervous. We deserve a REAL COACH!!!, a Cowher, or Walsh or Belechek or Jimmy Johnson etc etc…we deserve a winner, not a speed freek. His eyes were going a million miles per hour, but maybe it was the coffee.

I will give these guys time, but it does not bode well for the playoffs this year.

I agree we are getting ripped off at Arrowhead but most of the money is being spent on updated and upgraded electric, plumbing and infrastructure that we will never see. If you’ve ever gutted and remodeled a house you know what I mean. There should be some oversight on the spend and RFQ process but there isn’t. We gave the Chiefs and Royals blank checks and I think that was by design. They would never agree to lifting their skirts to let us see where the money is going.

  22. Anonymous says:

    mermaid
Jojo I agree. Who is going to step up to the plate on this? This was a HUGE SCAM and nothing but. I want someone put on the coals for this. Kansas City people should just stay home and boycott that JOKE. Is Carl responsible for this? I think KC is just trying to get the money while it can considering our better days of football are over.

Nice Try, are you serious? You are ALREADY saying can the coach because he doesn’t have the “look” of a coach and in your non medical opinion “his eyes don’t look right”.

You go on to say, “it does not bode well for the playoffs this year.” Well no sh*t Sherlock.

Brother, you are the one that is high on something. RARELY I am speechless. But that post and the lack of logic is so out their I won’t comment any further. Slam a way. The moron house must of let another one get a way.

MY DREAM…SOMEONE DO SOMETHING OUT AT THE
LEGENDS AT THE JUNK HOLE STADIUM!

I made my first trip to a soccer game at
community america ballpark. The worst stadium
I’ve been to including some of the most disgusting minor league parks.
Who ever invented that pro soccer game needs
to have their head examined. The most boring…
lame…tiring…waste of time (except writing on
this blog to be read by 8 people),,,
whoa…i found it to be almost a nightmare.
The field looked like a old cow pasture (minus
the manure)…the fans could not speak english
and the pa announcer was the worst i’d ever
    heard.
I was imprssed to see the legends parking lot
was filled with shoppers (or shop-lifters
stealing new tennis shoes for back to school)
but this park was a real disappointment.
Obviio0usly it was designed by the renovation
    chairman at arrowhead.
It was fun to hear all the aliens cramming their
drums and yelling something in spanish and
the totally dead crowd get excited by a
fat overweight mascot throwing out big macs.
That team is losing millions…someone get them
into one of the “death panels” limbaugh has
been talking about and someone pull the plug on
    this team…..

GREG HALL…LETS GET THIS RACE ON!
But first I want to make sure you can make it
past the first 20 meters. Go to your local doctor and get a doctors order that you can
actually run farther than from your couch to
the refrigerator. If you can do that we can
    have the first qualifying heat.
    LANE 1: GREG HALL
LANE 2: JASON WHITLOCK (tell him he gets a
    lap dance if he finishes_)
LANE 3: dorsey: (he can’t run more than
    10 meters…saw him saturday nite)
I’ll take on the winner. I am a triathlete and
run or bike 40-60 miles a week.
If you want we can wager on this race. I’ll
put up $1,000 to charity…and you give me the
right to post blogs and headline for one week.
LETS GET IT ON. from your picture it doesn’t
look like I’ll havemuch problem beating you
    with my eyes closed.

    jojo,
You’re a tri-head? That explains a lot. Since you are in such great shape, we’ll both enter a 5K of my choosing and you get to donate a grand win or lose. I’d pick the KC Marathon 5K but I’ll be out of town that weekend. How about Sunday, October 4th, at the Liberty Memorial? There is a Clean Air Challenge 5K Race that morning at 8:00 AM. Here’s a link to the race’s press release.

Nice Try-So let me get this right. Your orginal thought is that Haley should be canned because of the way he looks? Your second orginal thought is that the Chiefs won’t make the playoffs this year? Yeah, I had never heard that before. Oh wait you also mentioned the Chiefs miss Tony Gonzalez. Dude, you should create your own website with all these pearls of wisdom. I agree with rick the only thing orginal about you is the various names you sign on with. You are a tool and dips*it. You posted your opinion and Rick told you what an idiot you are. If you can’t stand the heat keep ypur opinions to yourself. Go back to smoking your weed so you can come up with some orginal creative thoughts.

Ok Rick now its your turn. You sure you are only posting under one name? I see rick, rick m, and rick from Olathe. Sure a lot of Ricks for this site.
