I’ve often wondered why a studio would ever screen such mindless garbage for the critics. Jack is right by calling these types of movies critics proof. I would think that anyone who pays attention to reviews would go out of their to miss these turkeys. If they don’t read them then they deserve what they get.

Jack — Who are the critics on RottenTomatoes.com who have reviewed GI Joe? They give the movie a 65. Did they screen this film in Europe and Asia for critics but not the US?

This looks like one of the worst movies of all time…historically bad. Battlefield Earth bad.

    To ‘first’ Greg-
What I’ve heard is that the film was screened for a few ‘selected’ critics across the nation. Plans then apparently called for a regular critic’s screening just a couple of days prior to opening. Infact I had the date down on my calendar for August 5.
But the screening never materialized after the supposed continued media and online bashing.
Guess you can’t blame the producer or the studio.
This way they’ll pretty well assured to make it through the movie’s first weekend–or at least through Saturday—without the possibility of getting blasted.
Nevertheless I would think the picture could open in the $35 to $40 million range—and maybe even bigger overseas.
Incidentally Shawn Edwards told me that he saw it while on a junket for the film. (They’ve got to show you the picture if you’re going to do interviews…..)
    thanks, jack p.
