Edelman: Eating Out in the Hood (119th & Roe, Mutha)

I’m as happy as the next guy to jump into the car and head down to the Crossroads or Power & Light District and grab a bite.

The 119th & Roe area is a frequent lunchtime hunting ground for me and my office mates. Here are three of my favorites haunts for nooners:

    Hereford House: Can

I know you said to stay away from the negative, but but West Chaise Grill is a joke. I won’t go any further, since they will likely be the next in that line of boarded up restuarants in that place where eateries go to die, South Hawthorne Plaza.

I must echo the previous poster with his/her Dean & Deluca call. See Rick behind the prepared food counter, what a gem!

Someone should say something nice about the California Pizza Kitchen, so I will. First dined at one in Las Vegas at The Mirage, and fell in love. The Leawood CPK is just as good, we like to build our our pizza. Delicious.

Houlihan’s is always “there.” Consistant, clean, never a waiting line, fast, good.

Props for CPK– the chopped salad is the best in town (though Avenue in Brookside and MIXX on the Plaza do a nice job– just far away). Ask for them to add garbanzo beans– I don’t think that’s usually in it, but they’ll throw em on per request.

And I still think West Chase is great– especially that Sunday night deal.

Can’t beat happy hour sushi at Kyoto 135 and Metcalf. They have the best sushi in the city I think. Kona can’t even come close to this place.

You forgot Cast Iron Cafe in the list of what’s been in the space at Hawthorne.

West Chase is a great place to eat. Chase and John are a fine addition to the independent restaurant scene in KC.

You can’t beat Cactus Grill for food and service. Great value and better food than almost anywhere else.
