This Throwback OTC is from April 2001. Dick Vermeil was the new coach of the Chiefs and there was much speculation as to what his first draft would look like. Don Fortune was still competing with Kevin Kietzman for the afternoon drive sports talk radio audience.

Is that the draft that the Chiefs traded their pick for Trent Green? They didn’t have a pick until the 3rd round and they took Eric Downing. Ouch.

I believe so; also got the forgettable Marvin Minnis in the 3rd round. Of course, King Carl made it all good next year by taking Ryan Sims and Eddie Freeman in the first two rounds. Only player the Chiefs got from those two drafts was Scott Fujita in the 5th round of 2002, although Derrick Blaylock in the 5th round of ’01 wasn’t bad.

Wow, a lot of memories of the past.

I almost forgot about Megan on Whitlocks show. And of course JW herassing Megan daily.

I always find it interesting that crazy message boards kept bashing KK for his infidelity, but always looked the other way when it came to JW sexully herassing Megan and is common visits to hookers.

I almost forgot JW lack of character also ruined a event in Germany for the troops.

From what I heard is that Russ Johnson and Tom Becka thought it would be a good idea to have baseball games or something like that to troops stationed in Germany. Just something to say were here to support you.

610 was just starting at the time and Entercom thought it would be good to attach 610 to the troop visit. So Tom Becka is out and JW and Bill Maas were in.

When they go JW and Maas were totally uninterested in visiting the troops. Maas spent much of his time in bars, taking drugs and trying to pick up women.

Whitlock of course spent too much time with hookers. Some of which were rumored to be under 16.

Of course Russ Johnson spent time with the troops playing baseball. You know what he was there to do.

So Entercom got tired of JW and Maas garbage and ended the visit way shorter then they intended.

Great stuff. I to forgot about Megan a SOFA award winner. Greg wish you would do an update on your current thoughts looking back. We did end up with Bennett. And Bishops career took him straight to Arena Football.

    Rick,
I am still trying to decide how to run these Throwback OTCs — just as they originally appeared or with updated comments. I’ll drop a few updates in my next Throwback and hopefully keep it from getting too confusing. Always appreciate the feedback.

Yeah I think with updated comments…maybe a looking back segment would be Great. I went online to try to see if I could find any info on Megan. Somewhat successful in that regard. But more interesting was I ran across three years of your SOFA awards in The Pitch. I know on occasion you get criticized and accused of having a bias against Kevin and 610. But anyone that reads some of your old stuff realize that you have treated him fairly. You even put the KK car rumors to rest in one article. I also read a great article you had on Jason. It’s amazing how well some of this stuff has held up. Keep up the good work. rick
