However Chris Lewellen is walking a fine line where tomorrow’s 5th annual Waldo Crawldo 13 bar bash is concerned. Be there or be square, Lewellen hints.
“I think we have a monopoly on women in Kansas City when we do these pub crawls,” Lewellen says. “I would say 80 percent of the advance ticket sales are to women.”
Here’s how it goes down, according to Lewellen:
“Anywhere in the city, all these girls pre-buy their tickets and show up between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.,” he explains. “Then when the guys get ready to go out between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., they start texting around to see where all the girls are. And when they find out they’re all in Waldo there’s this giant sucking sound.”

This year’s Waldo Crawldo will feature the seven signature, core pubs; Kennedy’s, Lew’s, Tanner’s, Bobby Baker, Hannibal’s and 75th Street Brewery – plus for the first time ever – six more.
Now South Waldo watering holes Corner Cocktail, Murphy’s, Tasso’s, Pat’s Bar & No Grill, the Piano Room and Swagger, a hip new dive owned by a tattoo parlor dude are on the market to take part of the women plan.
Another big difference between Waldo’s Crawldo and other entertainment district wing-dings:
“Most neighborhoods don’t like working with bars,” Lewellen says. “But we’re different in Waldo – they love us and think we’re good for the neighborhood. What’s really unusual about this pub crawl is our neighbors and homeowners actually come out and work the crowd.”
Advance tickets for $5 may be purchased up until 5 p.m. Saturday at participating Waldo bars and restaurants. They go for $10 at the door during the event and enable patrons to buy drink specials and be eligible for prizes such as four tickets and a limo ride to Mix 93.3 FM’s Red, White & Boom with David Cook and the Veronicas.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Waldo fountain at 75th Street and Wornall Road.
