This Just in: Something Wickedly Hot This Way Comes to Starlight!

At 2 p.m. today at Starlight Theatre promoter Jeff Fortier will blow the lid off the summer concert season with an annoucement of monumental…repeat, monumental…proportion.

Or so the story goes.

Fortier’s lips are sealed. Except to say that the performer is an American artist and an individual to be backed up by a band and it is not a rock act. Another clue: The

Whew, I am so glad you are out from under the Star’s oppressive thumb so that you can bring us uncensored dispatches of grave importance like this one. If only we knew what Craig Glazer thinks about this…

I’m sure that this will reflect more on my reading comprehension skills than anything, but what does 1972 have to do with anything? In the initial setup of the “event” it’s said that this is an artist, backed by a band and not rock-related. I don’t see anything in the setup about (not) appearing since 1972. So, did I completely miss it? Probably.

Celine Dion? Technically “American” as in “from North America.”

I’ll bet it’s Craig Glazer and his BAND OF THIEF’S

Way to compete with Tony’s KC with your photos of overmammaried celebrities! Couldn’t you find a pic of Chesty Morgan?

OK, a few real guesses. By the way, technically speaking, I think Celine Dion could still be correct since I don’t think she’s ever appeared in KC, and that would mean she hasn’t been here since 1972. But since no one thinks that’s very funny, how about these possibilities:

    Diana Ross
    Carole King
    Carly Simon
Steely Dan (I don’t think anyone considers them to be “Rock,” do they?)
    Bette Midler

From there it’s a bunch of real stretches like, maybe, Gladys Knight or Al Green.

Stevie Wonder….Man oh man are the gays pissed thinking it might have been Babs or Bette. Still don’t think it was worth all the hooplah. Hope they have P L E N T Y of metal detectors and gun sniffing dogs that night. You know all the old school homeboys are gonna be kickin’ it like it was Hagler vs Hearnes. Womens gonna get their hair did. Extra starch on the shirts my brothers…gonna be hot and humid. I got a 79 Cadillac Eldorado convertible for rent that night…8-Track works and I gots all my Cameo-Brick-Slave-Bootsy tapes just like new. Even toss in Songs in the Key of Life. Just sayin’ playah’s.

We were glad Stevie Wonder hadn’t been back since 1972. He could’ve waited even a little longer as far as I’m concerned.

Most all the guesses, including Stevie Wonder have appeared since 72.

what would be a GREAT ANNOUNCEMENT is that the ticket prices were going to be from 1972. That would be legendary. I just can’t see paying more then $30 at the most maybe $50 for a ticket. I don’t care who it is. I use to go to several concerts every year but haven’t done that in the last ten years.

Why did you change the pictures of Streisand and Aretha? Embarrassed into action by my earlier comment? It’s the Internet, Hearne–you don’t have to worry about offending Jeanne Meyer any more.

Funny, you gotta be an insider to drop that name! So I’ll let you in on a little secret – come a little bit closer and I’ll tell you; I wasn’t embarrassed and I didn’t change the photos. Keep it on the DL though, OK?
