C’mon Greg. This ain’t no war. This is Steven Hawking with a blown tweeter trying to outsing Beyonce.

Let them pull within 3 points and then it’s a battle.

Ptolemy, Those who have underestimated Little Stevie Hawking’s pipes have lived to regret it.

Nick Wright? The graduate of the William Shatner school of broadcasting? (Jim Rome being the other major alum.)

How many times do you punch the button and hear dead air? That being Nick in one of his famous pregnant pauses. I just move on. I like being talked to, not at.

    Greg,

I understand rooting for the underdog because you get tired of the guys at top but c’mon this cast of characters isn’t going to lead KCSP nowhere except to island of misfit toys.

Latest Arbitron WHB 4.3 KCSP 1.6. KCSP moved up from 19th place to 18th place now that is quite a move. All of the guys who created these numbers are still on air minus Neal Jones. Insanity is keeping these guys on the air and expecting different results.

Greg, I would love to see 610 make it interesting, but come on. Nick’s delivery and pace are unlistenable. You bias against 810 is blinding your assessment of this guy.

I think Wright has some talent. I think he’ll eventually begin to cut into Petro’s numbers. I also think 810 is losing their way of late. Way too many infomercials disguised as sports talk on KK’s show, slicing proven on-air talent, remotes on an almost daily basis, unpaid bills piling up — all makes me believe money is very tight at WHB.

I’m rooting for both stations to give the KC area quality radio. 610 has a long way to go to reach that goal but I see some positive signs. 810’s drop in quality is starting to concern me…and it should them.

Without Mr. Green supplying the green, WHB is in trouble. Boeger and Kietzman have reached the Peter Principle.

That’s a good point about the remotes nearly every day. Literally Petro is out of the studio at least three, maybe four times per week. They need that extra cash coming in because Hot Talk and “The Planet” (not to mention the Royals) were such a financial drain.

If 610 wins, it’s not going to be because of talent, it’s going to be because conglomo’s pockets were deeper.

I agree with several comments. Nick is doing a good job and has potential. No its not a radio war yet as 810 just has to much of a lead. However 810 has issues including the fact that the image is its my grandfather’s radio. Come on the whole Pete and trivia on Friday’s. Great just what I need prior to a big sports weekend to know who played second base in the seventh inning of the little league championship held in what state during what time zone……. BORING!!!!! Petro was on the Chiefs payroll way before any recent ads. Does anyone remember all fall his support for Brodie. And during the NCAA tournament AFTER Cole Aldrich broke records he complained he wasn’t doing enough. What a knucklehead. This may be the story of the tortoise and the hare. But moving the pieces around doesn’t make 610 the NEW 610.

    Greg…

Are you and Nick dating or something? Does he pay you each time you mention him? I’ve read more stuff from Nick Wright than anyone else. It is clear that you don’t like 810 becuase they fired you. But if you are going to do this column at least let it be known the background of your bias. And on the record Nick Wright is awful. How many times can you say “I’m going to give you my take” in one show?

I’m pretty sure that everyone who reads this column knows this history of Greg and sports radio in KC over the past 15 years. Plus, this is not a news column but an opinion piece. I take everything said on blogs with a grain of salt.

So, here is my worthless opinion. If the Royals actually contend throughout the summer and into the fall, that Summer ratings book might look pretty interesting. Now, the real test will be if 610 can keep any of the Royals listeners beyond September.

Guys (& a possible gal or two),
If I was interested in burning 810 or any other media outlet, I would not have resurrected my OTC column. Whether I document good, bad or really bad news and opinion about the local sports media, it is a plus for those outlets and individuals I cover. Why do you think my name is almost banned on local radio, TV or print? It ain

Obviously the response to Greg’s comments for a relatively VERY new outlet indicates both the interest in sports, Greg’s thoughts, and a look at the local sports media. I think its great to have Greg’s voice back no matter if you agree or disagree. I think if you heard or reread some of the things Greg has said about Kevin K. of 810 and his talents you would realize Greg is giving a fair look at things. Unbiased? Well are any of us totally unbiased? Some things I like about Nick are obviously the same things other people CAN’T STAND. It’s all a matter of opinion. But I enjoy hearing others. Thanks for sharing your thoughts to all.

Hey, gang: may I make a point or two?
Yes, this is a blog but the people writing and reporting here are not merely blogging. It takes lots of hard work to document and report the quotes Greg assembles and then add in his facts, wit and opinion. Facts he goes to great effort to check and confirm.
Same for Jack Poessiger who isn’t just spouting off, but is actively engaged in verifying and reporting accurate local movie news. You may also notice that many of the items I report and comment on draw upon information, news and comments by other sources.
In short we’re largely performing the same tasks most of us have done or continue to do for other media outlets around town. We’re not just cocking back each and every time and mouthing off. Although, hey – there’s no shortage of mouthing.
There is a difference however; hope you take notice!

The sooner more people start realizing everyone in the media has a bias and has their hands in the cookie jar the better.

Bottom line the whole KC media sucks. Nick Wright and Petro are just the lead dogs. The only good thing about KC television, radio, print is Holly Star on 38 the spot
