I always love going to Kauffman Stadium, but the terrible service at the concession stands never changes. They are too slow, and unfamiliar with the job. Perhaps most sports stadiums have this problem, since they pay their workers so little?

    Example:
On opening day about 20 minutes before first pitch, I thought I would try the tacos – a new option at the K. After about 15 minutes in line, the woman behind the counter asked me, “Crispy of soft shell?” I didn’t see that option on the board, but I told her that crispy sounded good. She then yelled back the order, and then another staffer had to tell her – the stadium doesn’t have crispy taco shells.

This might sound like pettiness on my part, but when the workers don’t know the products or how to properly ring up an order, it slows things down by a minute or so for each order. When you multiply that by thousands of people, you get long lines, and you get irritated customers.

I understand it’s a tough, hot, and thankless job, so maybe they would get better people if they paid more. Bottom line is that it would be nice if the Royals Stadium operators would make it a priority to have a full staff that is prepared to handle big crowds just before the game starts and reduce the long lines. I don’t think this is too much to ask.

We were out at both last night’s Buck Night as well as Opening Day. Two of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. The drunks who had been drinking since St. Patricks Day made Opening Day unbearable. PLUS the 1+ hour lines made it impossible to get anything done. That was also the day of the 1+ hour lines for the men’s room.

The men’s room lines were shorter last night, but I agree with the huge hot dog lines. Making it worse, there were morons buying 20+ hot dogs at a time. Seriously? You having an eating contest between innings? I would support a 2 Buck night just to knock off the morons both in front of and behind the counter. Kind of hoping for the 12,000 attendance nights to return so the place can be staffed appropriately.

I know it’s fabulous entertainment, but clearly false. I’m sure you’d do the same if someone was trashing you, notthefunk. Come on.
