“GH: I doubt the Chiefs are going to garner any more attention from the ESPN cameras than usual. We

GH: I found the Mandarich story kind of interesting. I think it should be mandatory viewing for all NFL rookies. I don’t think the average nacho-eating, tailgating chiefs, (small c intentional), fan has any idea of the difference between the college and NFL game. Precious few college players coming into the league have the intellect and emotional maturity to deal with life in the NFL. They’re more concerned with banging some nasty Hollywood Ho and getting on tmz then banging the play book and watching film. I’m sure Vince Young would crush Kerry Collins in a cage match but Vince will NEVER hang on the field the way that Kerry does. Same can be said of Kurt Warner and Matt Leinart. Forget the 40 time and the vertical leap. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.

    GearJ,
I stand corrected. PK’s trip to KC is definitely a change in attitude by the national media toward the new Chiefs regime.

    ManD,
Amen. Watching a mature Mandarich discuss his former self and then seeing the video of him as a self-absorbed manchild was riveting stuff. Every time I see one of these stories I ask myself how can anyone watch this and repeat these mistakes? But unfortunately we see it happen over and over because the next guy thinks he’s just as bulletproof as the last failed can’t-miss athlete did.

    Dave,
Love to see Ziggy get a first-round slot. He looks in great shape and it just takes one team to notice. Willie Mo was awful most of the season but let’s hope it was his injury and not reality. I think he’ll slip to a second-day pick and some team might get a steal.

    Greg,

I am really enjoying your updates.

Thanks for mentioning the Z-Man. He was great and I have not really enjoyed KC talk radio as much as I did when he was on. Good stuff. Does he write anymore?

I’m with Soren on this one. I’d rather spend that amount of money on Eugene Monroe, move Brandon back over to his comfy RT slot, and have bookend tackles for 10+ Years.

How about we go back in time, and compare: Will Shields and Willie Roaf? team good
John Tait et al: Team good?
Szott, Grunny, Alt, Shields: team good

Wil Svetek, Kelvin Sampson, Jordan Black, John Blackbourne, Victor Riley…not so much.

I hope Pioli isn’t Chris Moneymaker. That guy is awful.

On the subject of whether ESPN will have someone here:

No, I don’t see it. The “Patriots Way” is to tell you (the public and the media) nothing, or as little as possible, or make it as vague as possible.

Tom Brady was listed as Probable or Questionable on almost every list…the Pats list of players on “the injured list” was ridiculous, always long and ambiguous.

I’m shocked if Pioli or Haley will even come out of the War Room to talk to anyone at the Arrowhead party.

Face it folks: That group doesn’t give one lick about what the community/armchairs/sports radio commentators think. They are on a mission, they are a private organization, and they will run it anyway they see fit. Don’t expect “Monday Fireside chats” with them a la Carl.

All that means more speculation, more fuel for the fire and more talk for the radio, which means more for Greg to talk about. Win Win for everyone, eh?

    Brett,
I used to run into Z-man once in awhile about five years ago when he was selling office supplies. He’d stop in our Prairie Village office and we chatted a couple of times. Z-man and I had our run ins when I was writing for The Star (imagine that) but I think he eventually came to realize I was just one guy out there with an opinion that sometimes agreed with him and sometimes not. I don’t know if he’s even still in KC but maybe somebody else can update us.

I agree with Nick on 6l0, have some balls drop down a bit and get a PLAYMAKER for once, doesn’t do any good to have a good quarterback like Matt and nobody to help him score, you got it pick MU’s All American Maclyne(sp?)a game breaking wide out, running back and kick returner, Dante Hall on Roids….unless you think Larry Johnson is going to be great again(good again)we don’t have anyone who scares you on offense, this kid is scary….by the way the O lineman will be around in the other rounds, he won’t, Whitlock is right about Chase Kauffman as well, getting both those guys would be WOW and yes a couple lineman

A buddy and I were discussing Z-man’s infamous mock drafts the other day. Hilarious! I liked Z-man, too, but those mock drafts he did were unbearable.
